What is mullein?
Mullein (Verbascum Thapsus) is a plant with a tall, pole-like stem, yellow flowers and velvety leaves that can be found growing wild in fields and dry, sandy areas throughout the U.S. and other countries.
Mullein has a long history of use as an herbal remedy, with Greek physician and botanist Dioscorides recommending it for lung and respiratory health nearly 2,000 years ago. Its leaves were used to make tea, or sometimes smoked, and oil from its flowers was applied topically to relieve skin irritations.
